Location
Sulthan Bathery is one of the prominent towns in
Wayanad. The town is located along the Banaglore
Calicut highway. The town is adjacent to wildlife
santuary, edakkal caves, jain temple, ambukutty
mala, chetalayam falls and hence is a popular
tourist destination. We are adjacent to the NH-212,
which is the main highway connecting Calicut and
Mysore. We are about 97th km from
Calicut, and 114th km from Mysore(via
gundelpet).
Herbal nest is located
in Sulthan Bathery, at Kottakunnu. The Bus Stop on
calicut-mysore hwy is at a walkable distance and so
are good restaurents. The proximity to town makes
accesibility much easier and is a unique feature of
our homestay
We are 90 km from Ooty(via gudalur, Bitherghad).
It is 6 hour drive from Banglore and 7 Hour drive
from Ernakulam
Coming from Calicut
If you are coming by
private transport, from Calicut, we are about 35
mts from the pulpally-mysore junction, on mysore
road. There are a few shops and other businesses
at the junction.
While coming from calicut, you will pass through
the towns of Kunnamangalam, Thamarassery,
Adivaram and then through the ghat section. Do
not miss the scenary around. After climbing up
the ghat section, you will find a noticable
difference in the climate and find that it is
much cooler. Do not miss the "Chain tree" on you
left. You will then pass through the town of
lakkidi, a diversion to pookode lake and then
the town of Kalpetta. The next major town you
will pass through is Meenangadi. You will then
reach Sulthan Bathery.
Ask for directions to mysore if you get lost in
between. Anyone will be willing to help.

Coming
from Mysore or Bangalore
If you
are coming from Bangalore, ask for directions to
Mysore and when you reach Mysore, ask for
directions to Calicut.
Mysore is famous for its palaces, sandalwood,
crafts, Vrindavan and the Nandi temple. The
Nandi temple is up a hill and is just on the
outskirts of Mysore on the way to Calicut.
While coming from Mysore, you will pass by the
towns of Nandankode and Gundelpet. At Gundalpet,
you will take a deviation to go to Calicut. The
straight road would have taken you to Ooty, via
the Bandipur and Mudumalai sancturay.
Coming on the calicut road, your will pass
through a forest, which is part of the Bandipur
tiger reserve and then the Wayanad wild life
sanctuary.

Wayanad
wild life santuary
|
|
In the wild life santuary,
common animals you could see are wild fowl,
deer, bison and elephants. Tigers are a rare
find. It is advisable not to approach any wild
animal. Elephants in a herd are usually quite
harmless. If you find a herd, do not panic, and
do not honk. Wait at a distance and let them
cross the road.
You will cross the Kerala state boundary in the
forest. After you pass through the forests, you
will pass through small towns of Muthanga and
Kalloor.
Hunting is
stictly prohibitted in the santuary. Before and
after you cross the forests, you will find a few
checkposts. You are not allowed to bring any
alcohol to Kerala.
We are about 35 meters
before the pulpally-mysore junction; you will
pass by our homestay just before you reach the
town of Sulthan Bathery. |
